Janome Sew Mini Sewing Machine
For this cute little machine, you can get the best bang for your buck based on the retailer you visit. I think at this price range, it is one of the best mini sewing machines that you can get. The problem is, it’s frequently out of stock on Amazon and at any other online stores. I’m not sure why but I think I read somewhere that it is discontinued. (disclaimer: not 100% sure about it,do your research! 🙂 ) So check my recommendation for an alternative machine below.
It’s small size allows for use just about anywhere, while still giving you the chance to create your favorite projects at home. Whether you are taking it to a class or an absolute beginner that doesn’t need a lot of machine, it is ideal.
Features
- Under 7 pounds total weight
- J style drop in bobbins
- 10.5 inches in length by 8 inches high and 4.75 inches wide
- Wall plug instead of batteries for hours of sewing fun
- 1 presser foot included with a drop in J style bobbin
- Stitch up to 6 layers at once
- 4 point feed dog
Red writing on the white machine allows for easy viewing of the stitches offered on the machine. The reverse button is helpful and lets new sewing enthusiasts control when stitches are reversed and for how long by holding the button down.
For the overall cost and ease of use, this is a great deal for any beginner or someone who is always on the go and just wants to be able to take on small projects. There are no bells and whistles, but a simple and easy to use machine can be worth its’ weight in gold for the right person.
Singer Mini Sewing Machine: The Pixie-Plus Craft Machine
The only Singer mini sewing machine available at a very cheap price depending on where it is purchased, and has the essentials for your sewing needs. This mini stitch sewing machine offers:
Features
- 8 built in stitches
- Under 5 pounds in weight
- Foot pedal
- Reverse button
- Carrying handle made into the top
- Wall power or AA batteries will power your machine
- J style drop in bobbin
- Light over needle area
The white and purple design seems geared towards younger enthusiasts, and the options offered give users the opportunity to create just about any sized project despite the small size. The ruler along the bottom front of the machine helps with measurements, although based on users’ information it may not be the best choice for seasoned persons.
It is suggested that a different bobbin be used with this machine, as it does not pick up properly with the ones included.
However, this could be due to not using the stitch speed guide of low or high which is on the front right corner of the machine. Overall, for the cost and convenience it would be a decent buy.
Kenmore Mini Ultra 3/4 Size Sewing Machine
The maker of so many home products offers a smaller sized sewing machine for all of your stitching needs. With a going rate of $90 to $115 on average, this machine would be an ideal buy for the size and options offered.
Features
- 550 stitches per minute
- Push and pull clutch
- Under 10 pounds total weight
- 2 Plastic bobbins included
- Dust cover
- Needle set
- Button hole opener
- Darning plate
- Button hole foot
- 4 step button hole
- Front loading bobbin and thread
- Thread tension settings
For the size and price, you can’t beat this great little machine. Although it is small, it stitches just as fast as larger machines and still takes up less space. It does not offer a stitch width control, but the dial allows for you to choose one of the included 6 stitches. Able to sew denim, this tiny mighty machine will allow you to do many types of projects working with a wide array of fabrics.
Janome Fast Lane Portable Sewing Machine
This sweet little portable mini stitch sewing machine comes in 8 colors, and has all that a beginner needs to start out with. Light weight and able to be carried anywhere, the Janome Fast Lane gives you the chance to sew on the go. The average cost is around $70 on the low end, and is well worth it’s asking price for what you get.
Features
- 10 Built in stitches
- 2 Top loading drop in J style bobbins
- Left and center needle position
- Under 5 pounds total weight
- Blue, gray, lilac, fuchsia, mint, pink, teal and purple colors available
- Power cord
- Hand wheel
- Thread tension manual knob
- Finger guard
Although the feed dogs are not able to be moved, this machine allows for many different types of materials to be used. Not only is this model safe for older users, but young ones can sew safely due to a plastic finger guard that makes it almost impossible to run over a small hand or finger.
The stylish colors mean that a young child of either sex can get one in a color they enjoy, making it personal for them. For the more experienced sewing enthusiasts, it offers all the basics that are needed to complete your projects at home with less space occupied by machine.
Michley LSS-202 Lil’ Sew & Sew Mini 2-Speed
This pint sized mini machine offers all the perks of larger basic machines at a discounted price of $25 to $30 on average. Weighing in at under 2 pounds, this very portable sewing machine allows for you to tuck it away and use just about anywhere, including your lap, if you wanted. Included in this package are:
Features
- Foot pedal and adapter
- Thread bag
- 42 Piece sewing kit
- Electric scissors
- 2 Built in stitches; zigzag and straight stitch
- Hand wheel
This easy to use machine offers more power when plugged into a socket than with batteries, but has the capability for both. The two stitches allow for hemming and small projects like blankets and even denim.
With the included sewing kit, you get a few different colors of thread, a couple of needles and pins as well as all the basics a beginner could need. The electric scissors are battery operated, and offer you more strength than manual scissors without getting the hand cramps from traditional pairs.
Although the price is good, if you are interested in being able to do more for your money it is suggested you look at other models. This one is ideal for small tasks for beginners, and more seasoned users will likely be bored.
Easy Stitcher Table Top Sewing Machine
This white and red mini stitch sewing machine is ideal for beginners of all ages. Those with tiny hands will find that it is easy to use and is pre-threaded for those that have a hard time threading. The average cost is $30 – $40 depending on the retailer you purchase from.
The included step by step instructions allow for young users to learn how to do the basics, while offering a refresher for more seasoned users.
Features
- Under 3 pounds total weight
- Dual speed control
- Horizontal drop in bobbins
- Adapter or AA battery operation
- Use with thin or thick fabrics
Although this small machine is not very large, it is able to complete many types of projects with differing materials from cottons to denim. The manual included gives a step by step for every type of action this machine is capable of.
The reverse stitch allows for one touch use of reversing a stitch for reinforcement when depressed. The high and low settings allow for power control, which has an effect on stitch speed. This basic machine gives new users the chance to get used to all the different things a machine can do, while teaching users how to maneuver a machine with minimal distractions that offer too many options and can be confusing.
Mini Sewing Machines: Expectations Vs Cost
Lots of users are setting high expectations out of these machines when they really know right upfront that they are getting portable mini sewing machines that are designed to carry out simple stitches. Here is a video that shows the basic usage of the above models I have discussed;
Janome Sew Mini: A Personal Favorite
To be honest, the best machine for your small space and money is the Janome Sew Mini Stitch, as it offers a few more things that the others do not. The feed dog system and the fact you can sew so many layers at once due to the speed makes it the best buy. None of the others offer these two options, and if you are only shopping based on price, there are others that are a better deal. But for the money and the option and based on these mini sewing machines reviews, that would be my top pick.
